Kelly here! This month, I’ve found (and revisited) a few interesting leadership resources to help me stay focused, be a better leader, and grow my business. Happy to share!

Kelly’s Leadership Top 3 For August

Leaders Eat Last

Leaders-Eat-Last-Simon-Sinek-book-review-Filament“When our leaders give us something noble to be part of…it seems to give us the power to do the right thing.” I picked this book up based on a presentation that my business coach, Rebecca, did featuring Simon Sinek’s business philosophy. In this book, Mr. Sinek uses effective examples (many from the military) to show how trust within our organizations is really the key to getting great results. It’s not about the leader’s capabilities, but how he cultivates an accountable, confident team to perform. Although I found it to be a little wordy at times, I did appreciate the overarching points of this book.

Listening To Shame

brenebrown-shame-ted“Vulnerability is the birthplace of creativity, innovation, and change.” I revisited Brené Brown’s second TED Talk, Listening To Shame, this month because I’d gotten a little bit caught inside my own head. I think other business owners can relate to the pesky thoughts of: “I’m not successful enough,” “I’m not growing fast enough,” “I don’t know all of the answers,” etc. Brené quotes Theodore Roosevelt in this speech, which was exactly what I needed to hear: “It is not the critic who counts…the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena…who at the best in the end knows the triumph of high achievement, and at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly…”

Dream Builder & “I am…” Statements

Rebecca-Heidepriem-Action-Coach-suitcase-horizonIt’s been about a year since I really sat down and thought about what I wanted my life to look like now and in the future. At the prompting of my coach, Rebecca, I revisited her Dream Builder process, which helped me re-envision what it is I’m really striving for in life, and re-ignite my commitment to work through the muck of small business ownership to get there. The cool thing? When I revisited my “I am…” statements from last year, I’d already attained a number of them (like, I am someone who takes time to read and meditate each morning)! By revisiting my dreams and putting new daily affirmations in place, I’m feeling stronger and more motivated to take on my world.

That’s all for this month! Hopefully you find a nugget within these resources that can help you. If you’re a business owner who’d like to connect, don’t hesitate to drop me a line at kelly@filamentwi.com!
