Kelly here! I’m slowing down and integrating more mindfulness into my life…or at least trying. I’ve been asking for podcast recommendations this month, so I’ve got a few new ones to share with you. I still find myself listening to a lot of business shows, yet, these have a really mindful approach to the entrepreneurial lifestyle. I hope you enjoy and take away as much as I did!
The Quote of the Day Show with Sean Croxton – Daily Mindfulness
Mara and Gloria, owners of Artery Ink, based here in Milwaukee are people I respect a great deal. They are extremely positive business women who believe in the power of a great mindset. They also have some enviable health habits, including daily mindfulness. They recommended “The Quote of the Day Show” with Sean Croxton. They listen every day, and Sean has even worn one of their amazing tee shirt designs! I’ve been listening in while I have breakfast each morning (one of those mindful habits I’m trying to build!). The show is typically less than ten minutes of inspiring content from all sorts of leaders. The fact that one of my favorites, Brené Brown was on last week helped get me hooked – check it out!
The Good Life Project – Mindful Leadership
Our Filament teammate, Erin, turned me on to the Good Life Project months ago. I’ve gotten into this podcast lately, because it’s a little bit less “hustle, hustle, hustle,” and a little more “find purpose, live well.” All while sharing stories of hugely successful people and entrepreneurs who’ve chosen to do it a little bit differently. I have two favorite episodes from the last few months: Mark Lukach: When Mental Illness Changes Everything really hit home with me, and made me think about how taking care of ourselves first aught to be a priority. Mark Divine: From NAVY Seal to Warrior Monk also stayed with me. Both of these shows made me think of getting quiet and integrating mindfulness into my professional life more purposefully.
The School of Greatness with Lewis Howes – Mindfulness Techniques
I found this show while scrolling the top shows on my iPhone app. The first time I listened to The School of Greatness with Lewis Howes, I didn’t love it. He’s a dude’s dude. But like most things, I gave it another try before removing it from my pod list. I caught can episode called “Relieve Stress, Find Inner Peace, and Live Your Greatness” with Nick Ortner.
I didn’t know exactly what “tapping” was throughout the show, but what they were talking about sounded so familiar. When we live in fear, we can’t focus on our world-changing work. It’s not as “woo-woo” as it sounds…basically if I have fear of not having enough money to pay my bills this month, I can’t focus on other important things. My nervous system reacts like I’m in danger. And it’s not good for me or anyone around me. The “tapping” technique lets me take a moment of mindfulness, connect with that emotion, acknowledge it, and let it go. Sounds good to me – hopefully it will help others tune in to greatness, too!
