Kelly here! With 2018 fast approaching, I’ve found myself focused on a higher-level vision for next year. By stepping back and approaching the big picture first, I should be able to set realistic growth goals for myself and Filament. Planning with Powersheets


I’ve changed up my end-of-year planning routine this year, and opted for a Powersheets planner (at the recommendation of Maggie Joos, owner of The Real Good Life). I just got this in the mail, and so far, I’m appreciating it. If you’re looking for something that will help you take a step back and really look at how you want to live next year, this is a great tool. It starts by taking you through the process of figuring out what you really want. Goal-setting comes next. And each season and month helps you break down your daily, weekly, and monthly priorities. I’m looking forward to working through this book, and preparing my brain for an outstanding 2018!



S.M.A.R.T. Goal Planning

Yes, we’ve still got a month left in 2017, but smart business owners are taking the time now to evaluate the year gone by, and develop a plan for the next 12 months. Visioning – A Lapsed Anarchist’s Approach To Building A Great Business

Visioning-lapsed-anarchist-approachThis book has been one of my favorites for a few years now. It was introduced to me by Pam Mehnert, then President of Local First Milwaukee. I’ve used the approach with my parents for our family farm, and for my team at Filament. The key concept here is to really stretch your brain, and think about long-term vision (let’s say, 20 years out). Then pull back to 1, 3, and 5 year vision and goals that will get you there. It’s fun to think about your own personal scenario in the future, as well as how you can impact your business, community, and even the world with your planning and actions!
