As you grow your business, it’s a good idea to get clear what your core values are, and how you’ll implement them into the culture you’re building. Recently, Katy and I took at day to reflect and really talk about which core values we hold most dear, and how we want to grow Filament around them. As we sat in nature with a pen and paper, this exercise proved to challenge us, and prompt some great discussions.
To other small business owners, I urge you to take the time to do this exercise with your key players – hear them out, consider their opinions, and document your commitment to the culture of your organization. Here’s what we came up with:
Purpose. We build our business, our client base, and our community on a foundation of passion and leadership. We serve based on our commitment to balance, self-care, excellent results, and improving the world we live in.
Growth. We are committed to doing the work to grow our business, and our clients’ businesses. We invest time, resources, and passion into Filament. We value education. We keep the big picture in our sights at all times.
Creativity. We are open to new ideas and concepts. We embrace innovation and lead with open minds. We are not afraid of failure; we learn from every one. We appreciate beauty. We find creative solutions.
Team. We are inclusive. We have each other’s backs. We manage up. We share resources. We play above the line. We care about each other.
Play. We have fun together. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We encourage laughter. We find joy in each day. We embrace positivity. We make time to celebrate our wins.
